Dalhousie, named after Lord Dalhousie, who discovered
the beautiful place in 1854, is situated 2,039 metres above
sea level. Sprawling over and around five hills, the town is
a popular summer resort. Its bewitching beauty, the serenity,
the peace and the calm have attracted Indian as well as foreign
tourists. Majestic green hills and vales are covered with thick
forests of oak, conifers and various other varieties of flora.
A relief from the blazing and scorching heat of the plains,Dalhousie
is a haven for long walks, hikes to nearby mountains, and for
delightful picnics.
ACCESS
The nearest airports are at Jammu (188 km) and Amritsar (188
km) while a convenient railhead is Pathankot (80 km), which
is connected to Amritsar, Delhi, Mumbai; Calcutta and Jammu.
One can get a bus/taxi from Pathankot to Dalhousie.
PLACES OF INTEREST
Panjpulla, Jandhrighat, Bakrota Hills and around, Dain Kund
which gives a lovely view of the river Beas, Ravi and Chenab,
and Kalatope a fine picnic spot.
