Kullu Manali

Kullu Kullu - Manali Situated at a height of 1,219 metres above sea level, amidst meadows of blooming rhododendrons, scarlet sumash and orchards of apples, cherries, apricots and peaches, Kullu is one of the most beautiful Himalayan valleys. The road up the Kulu Valley is indeed picturesque, accompanied by the river Beas and its small and big tributaries of rivulets, brooks, streams and springs. The Dussehra festival of Kulu, during autumn, is marked by a massive rath yatra. It is a colourful occasion celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm

ACCESS
The city is connected by air with Delhi and Shimla. The nearest railway stations are Pathankot (285km) and Chandigarh (255 km) from where buses/taxis to Kulu are available. Kulu is easily accessible by road from Pathankot, Chandigarh and other cities and towns of the region. Kulu is 798 km from Delhi.

PLACES OF INTEREST
Camping site of Raison (16 km), Katrain (20 km) known for its apple orchards and bee - keeping, Roerich Art Gallery, Kasol (42 km) for trout fishing, and Manikaran (45 km) famous for its hot springs.


Manali
Situated at the height of 1,926 metres the mountains, one of the most popular hill stations, Manali has abundant fruit orchards and pine groves. A spot for adventure enthusiasts, one can do river rafting on the Beas or Trek into the Himachal hills from here. Rock climbing courses are conducted during the summer months and skiing at Solang and Auli during the winters. Legend has it that Manu stepped off a boat in manali to recreate human life after floods had devastated the world.

Manali is famous for its embroidered shawls, wooden boxes, woolen caps and Tibetan curios available in the local markets. Silver inlay jewellery is also a good buy from shops around the Mall.

ACCESS
The nearest airport is at Bhuntar, 50 km away, from where one can take a bus/taxi. Buses connect Manali to Chandigarh (312 km), Shimla (247 km), Dharamsala (253 km).

PLACES OF INTEREST
Hadimba Devi Temple, Vashist Baths, Old Manali Village, Arjun Gupha, Jagatsukh (6 km) -- famous for very old temples, Tibetan Monastery.

EXCURSIONS
Rohtang Pass (51 km) for a panoramic view of the mountain ranges, Kothi (12 km) -- also a picturesque spot.
