Madhya Pradesh is situated in the central part
or the heart of India. As much as a third of it is covered by
thick forests and glades, while the mighty Vindhya and Satpura
ranges divide its vast plateau over which run a number of scenic
rivers such as the Tapti, Narmada, Chambal, Shipra and the Betwa,
winding their way down.
Nature has certainly endowed madhya pradesh very liberally with
her gifts. Luxuriant woods, sparkling waterfalls and gurgling
rivers offer the lover of nature a choice of lovely retreats,
while the state also possesses some of the country's most exciting
wildlife parks, like those of Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Shivpuri and
Panna.
The state is culturally very rich and possesses a very large
number of excellently preserved archaeological monuments dating
from the paleolithic age to the late medieval period - monuments
such as Khajuraho, Sanchi, Mandu and the Gwalior Fort.
