The name "Palace on Wheels" was derived from the royal background
of the coaches. The ornate passenger coaches were originally
meant to be the personal Railway coaches of erstwhile rulers
of the princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of
Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India.
The eight-day long majestic journey of Palace on Wheels begins
on every Wednesday from September to April every year, chugging
out gently out of Delhi into the opulent Rajasthan
