Rishikesh is 42 km from Dehradun and its calm, serene surroundings
and a peaceful atmosphere have led many a saint and godman to
set up ashrams along the holy Ganga. Sage Raibhya Rishi did
a pen- ance to please God who appeared as Hrishikesh. That was
how the holy town of Rishikesh, situated on the banks of Ganga,
got its name . Today, Rishikesh has developed into a major center
for yoga and meditation and research in mental and physical
health.
Laxmanjhoola, a suspension bridge across the Ganga, Triveni
Ghat where evening aarti to Ganga Ma is performed and the Ram
Jhoola make for interesting visits and are a must see.
