A state which offers a variety of pleasures
ranging from ancient and beautiful temples to lovely beaches
and exciting hill resorts. For the cultural tourist, Tamil
Nadu abounds in temples, making it the richest temple state
of India. From the Meenakshi temple of Madurai, to those of
Rameswaram, Chidambaram, Tiruchirapalli and Tanjore, there
is a whole gamut of them.
The temples are almost a quintessential expression of the
Dravidian style of culture, art and architecture, that of
the Pallava, the Chola and the Pandya dynasties. There are
the beautiful beaches of Mamallapuram, Chennai, Kanyakumari,
Rameswaram and Pitchavaram where one can combine a relaxing
beach holiday with a visit to some of India's oldest monuments,
while the hill resorts beckon to those in search of relaxation
and to lovers of nature.
